What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel (or a skin peel) is a resurfacing treatment that improves the appearance of skin.

Our skin cells reproduce every month. For healthy skin, you must exfoliate the old dead skin cells away. A lack of exfoliation leaves the skin dry, dehydrated and dull. A chemical peel is the perfect exfoliation treatment to loosen and lift away all the dead skin cells. It will stimulate new skin cell growth. It also encourages the skin to produce collagen and hyaluronic acid.

The benefits of a chemical peel are a smoother skin, a brighter glowing complexion and an improved skin tone and texture.

What more could we ask for!

Will a Chemical Peel suit me?

Yes!
There are different peel solutions to suit all skin types. In order to ensure a healthy, fresh, glowing skin, many people get a skin peel treatment a few times a year. Or, many clients choose to have one to brighten their skin for important events. While others opt for a peel treatment to target ageing skin, rosacea, teenage acne, adult acne, open pores or pigmentation.

What type of peel TREATMENT is best for me?

It is not a one size fits all approach. There are multiple types of chemical exfoliants eg salicylic acid, glycolic acid, malic acid etc. There are also varying degrees of depth. One can get a very superficial peel or a deep peel. Some prefer to opt for a mild treatment with no downtime and some like advanced treatments to target ageing or acne.

As an Aesthetic Nurse, I have trained in a wide range of skin peels, including advanced medical-grade skin peels. I offer a bespoke chemical peel treatment at my clinic in Oranmore. So, the treatments will be tailored to suit you.

I hope this offers an insight into peel treatments. For more information feel free to get in contact or book an appointment here.

I recently wrote a blog on Bridal Skincare to help some of my brides-to-be prep before the big day. I spoke about your skin routine and in-salon skin treatments. However, what you do in your life everyday also has a big impact on your skin. Maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle will go a long way in helping you achieving glowing skin.

I have a background in nursing and over the years have grown to learn that with many health conditions it is important to look at the body as a whole. Medications don’t always resolve complex health issues alone. Just as skin products alone may not always cure acne or rosacea. A full body approach, with a combination of treatments, can be the key to get you looking and feeling the best you can be.

From the moment a Wedding date is set, a bride is buzy looking at venues, searching for the perfect dress, visiting wedding fairs etc. It is an exciting time but it can also be a hectic and overwhelming time for some. Many Brides experience some sort of stress and/or anxiety at some point. It is hard to simply eliminate stress from our lives, but you can be aware of it. When we are feeling stressed or lacking in sleep our adrenal glands release the hormone cortisol. This results in dilation of the capillaries under the eyes, leaving us with those dreaded dark circles! So, in the months leading up to the Wedding set aside some time for yourself amidst all the planning. Slot in some yoga, me-time, time with friends, gym classes or whatever it is that you like doing to relax.

A lack of sleep can also leave you with a dull complexion. Try to get 7 – 8 hours sleep every night. This will make all the difference in achieving that glowing skin.

Alcohol plays a part in skin health and hydration also. Have you ever looked at your skin after a night out with the girls and felt it was dull, grey and just less plump? Excess alcohol can contribute to dry and dehydrated skin. I won’t suggest you cut out alcohol completely as i know you might like the odd glass of wine when the table planning just gets too much! However, limit your intake in the weeks before the Wedding.

Finally, drink 2 litres of water a day to keep your skin hydrated and the pesky under eye circles at bay. A lack of hydration can leave your skin dry, flaky and tight. Whereas, an adequate water intake will keep your skin plump, hydrated, youthful and glowing! If you are someone who struggles to drink enough water, pop a mint leaf or a few slices of fruit into your water bottle. Mint will not only give a nice flavour but is great for digestion too.

I hope this was of some help. You can have a read of my post on Bridal Skincare for some tips on a a skin routine. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or to book a skin consultation. Enjoy all the Wedding prep!

<ins></ins>You said YES!! What’s next? A Wedding Day is one of the most special days in a girls life. Every Bride-to-be wants to look and feel her very best on her big day. I have put together some Bridal skincare tips to help you prepare in every way.

I encourage Brides to begin their skincare prep 6 – 8 months in advance of the Wedding to get the best from their skin on the day. The longer you have to target any skin concerns the better!

Chat to your therapist about booking a course of professional facials in the months before the Wedding. This will assist in repairing the skin, target any skin concerns and will also just give you some pamper-time to relax in the midst of all the hectic Wedding Planning! Treatment options can vary from regular purifying facials to resurfacing chemical peels. Chemical peels improve skin texture and provide a new fresh glowing skin. They can effectively treat various skin conditions. Professional treatments will only do so much though, so keep up the good work at home too.

Try to keep to a regular daily skin routine. Make sure the products you are using daily are the best ones for your skin. I was chatting with a client recently about her skin. She complained of skin becoming sensitive and dry in the last while. When I asked about her routine I found she was using a cleanser that was stripping her skin. Sometimes even expensive products can do more harm then good if not suited. While I always recommend getting advice before starting active products, I have listed some general tips to help you in starting a Bridal Skincare Routine. If you need some help with your skin routine then why not book a skin consult with me.

In the morning, an anti-oxidant serum will protect from free radical damage and give a lovely radiant glowing complexion. Always follow with an SPF moisturiser. At night, our skin’s DNA repairs itself as we sleep. Adding an active serum with peptides or Vitamin A to your night-time skin routine can give great results.

Cleansing sets the foundation for good skin. A freshly cleansed face will allow all other skin products to take effect and be absorbed. So, cleanse daily to ensure a flawless make-up application on your Wedding morning.

Exfoliate regularly to maintain fresh healthy skin and ensure a flawless make-up application on your Wedding Day. Not exfoliating causes a build up of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. These block the absorption of all the lovely expensive serums we apply and can leave you with a dull, lifeless complexion. Their are many different types of exfoliants. You can use a physical scrub or a chemical exfoliant. Chemical exfoliants are becoming increasingly popular. Citric acids, such as lactic acid or glycolic acid, can be introduced to your routine. As long as you don’t over-use them these can give beautiful results. However, over-use or incorrect use can cause irritated and/or dehydrated skin. It’s always best, when introducing active products, to chat to a skin therapist first.

I hope this was helpful. Feel free to get in contact for more advice, to book a skincare consultation or to just let me know how you are getting on with your routine. I love to hear any comments.

Enjoy the big day!
